Using a reading pen in Tier 2 reading intervention

Assistive Tech

In a tiered (Response to Intervention or MTSS) model, Tier 2 is extra, targeted help for students who are not keeping up with Tier 1 classroom teaching. A reading pen does not replace that teaching. It works alongside it: the student keeps learning to decode in small-group sessions, while the pen lets them read the printed texts they need in other lessons today.
